Which drugs do you use for each patient? How do you use them in each patient? The answer to these questions is dependent upon the philosophy of each anesthesiologist. The most important approach for young anesthesiologists in Japan is not to pursue superficial knowledge and limited experiences with nitrous oxide, but to understand and establish a deep historical basis of nitrous oxide. The history of nitrous oxide anesthesia in Japan was reviewed and discussed. We have to understand the meaning of 'Nothing New under the Sun' deeply again.
