In present study we succeeded to stain the potassium in the inner ear of normal guinea-pigs by means of modified Macallum's method with frozen procedures. The potassium was stained in Corti's organ, spiral ganglion cells, nerve fibers, stria vascularis and in epithelial cells and endothel cells faced to endo-and peri-lymph, remarkable distributions of potassium were noticed in stria vascularis, cochlear nerve fibers and osseous tissue of inner.ear. But no significant differences were found among the tissues each turn. In stria vascularis, the density of potassium was so great as to make scarcely a minute intracellular observation. Weak staining was obtained in ligamentum spirale. As to epithelial cells the peripheral portions of the cytoplasm were more densely stained and the hair cells distinctly stained, than their supporting cells. Only little stain was seen in Reissner's membrane and tectorial membrane.<BR>In spiral ganglion cells potassium was distributed in carapace-like figures, and a fair amount of it was also found in the nerve fibers led to Corti's organ. In a longitudinal section of cochlear nerve, the potassium distribution in the fibers was densely stained as a short rod swarm.
