5.4% of all my outpatient cases in 1978 involved pain or discomfort along the path of the femoral nerve. As good results were obtained using direct electrical acupuncture stimulation of the femoral nerve I'd like to report them at this time.2) MethodsNo. 4, 1.3 TSUN stainless steel needles were used.Direct insertion to a depth of 20-25mm. at SP-12 on the femoral nerve, 5mm. lateral to the femoral artery and directly inferior to the central point of the inguinal ligament. This point is attached with a needle inserted stationary at GB-32, SP-10 or GB-34 (other major point) and electrical current administered for about 5 minutes.3) Results of TreatmentImmediately following treatment remarkable relief of pain and discomfort along the path of the femoral nerve was observed. Long term results showed that in 56 cases during 1978 cure or remarkable alleviation of symptoms was observed in 47 or 84% of the cases.4) Discussion and SummaryDirect electrical acupuncture therapy of the femoral nerve (SP-12) was observed to provide relief or cure of undangerous pain in the thigh area, intermittent claudication, venal thrombosis of the legs and hemiplegia in 84% of the cases.
