The scientification of acupuncture and moxibustion includes, an enormous amount of material and many difficulties thus it can not be dealt with lightly. I am one of the persons who have tried to study this problem from the standpoint of clinical realities. I would like to organize and state my work thus far.1. Starting Points as Clinical FactsIt may be just a chance occurrence however the fact that certain diseases are cured through acupuncture always leaves us with a fresh impression. Analysis must be made considering these facts as starting points.2. Learning From the ClassicsIt is essential to study the classics to learn how our colleagues of old interpreted and solved these problems. At the same time it is necessary to determine what should be preserved and what should be disregarded.3. From the Viewpoint of EpidemiologyAs human experiments can be performed only on volunteers, when all patients are used as subjects the methods of epidemiology are employed. In this manner it is possible to check the frequency of disease occurrence among the masses. Statistical research is also an important subject for the future.4. Study of Clinical ExperimentsSeveral tests should be performed on volunteers. This is aa generally accepted method and should begun. I would like to touch on study and observation through pulse beat, microvibration, etc.5. The Importance of Cooperative ResearchThe power of the individual is limited. Co-operative resarch and teamwork is essential. Various examples of this can be introduced.6. OthersI would like to speak about other future resarch prospects and my opinion of what should be done.
