Since last year we have been studying the problem electrolysis presents in acupuncture anesthesia. We represent the Acupuncture Anesthesia Research Group of the Oriental Medicine Research Association of the Medical Department of Nagoya University. We would like to present our findings on the following problems in this our secondreport: 1, Analysis of needle constitution2. Study of needle electrolysis in a saline solution3. Study of electrolysis in a Bengal isinglass (vegetable gelatin) culture4. Study of needle electrolysis due to low frequency therapy apparatusResults1. Of the various makes of needles used in these experiments, among the major types of which the principle components were Fe, Cr, N, Mn, there was little difference observed in results. Moreover it was learned that extra materials accounted for (an unexpectedly high percentage) 5-7% of the needle composition.2. These experiments were performd using electrical apparatus which produced a sine wave. The current used was the same as that normally used in treatment. It was found that although in some cases, as was reported last year, slight skin burns were produced on the surface of the skin, the sine wave apparatus proved highly safe. This is a confirmation of last year's results.3. The first experiments performed with isinglass cultures showed clearly the existence of isolated matter from the positive needle during electrical stimulation.Isinglass cultures at various P. H. levels were used. Results after electrical stimulation showed tendencies toward neutralization4. These experiments were performed in order to test for electrolysis thus current was administered at 1-4mA, 1000Hz. Results changed depending upon the make of the needle. This was most likely due to slight differences in composition, we believe. Also examination under a magnifying glass (8X) showed th progress of electrolysis to begin with the formation of bubbles followed by a gradual hollowing out of inner material.SummaryWe can make one statement based on the results of our experiments, that the phenomenon of needle electrolysis changes depending on individual factors such as needle materials, wave length, current, etc.
