Measurement of Moisture and Crude Protein Content in Single Kernel of Rough Rice Using NIR Transmittance Spectroscopy

In this study, a near-infrared transmittance measurement system was developed to measure moisture and protein content in a single kernel of rough rice. Calibration model with R=0.943 and RMSEP=0.788% w.b. for moisture content could be obtained using partial least squares regression. On the other hand, calibration model for protein content was not significant enough in this study. In addition, the thickness of each kernel was measured using a laser displacement sensor to correct the optical path length of each transmittance spectrum, which was then applied to the transmittance spectra of the single kernel of rough rice. However, it was not effective to improve the accuracy of prediction of moisture content by correcting the optical path length in this study.
