The stress-strain relationships in tension were studied, by using several kinds of commercial graphite. These stress-strain relationships satisfy the empirical formula previously proposed by the authors in the case of compression.<BR>It has been found, however, that both the static modulus of elasticity and the decrease ratio of the apparent modulus are different from those in the case of compression.<BR>The discrepancy between the experimental results and the empirical formula at very low stress is considered to be attributable to the existence of residual stress.<BR>The stress-strain relationships under cyclic tension were also measured, and the relationships between maximum stress and residual strain in such cases were studied.
