Dental extractions of a patient with idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) sometimes requires platelet concentrate transfusion or local hemostatic management. However, such statistical report is rare. In this report, clinical analysis of 18 patients with ITP who had required dental extraction in our hospital from 1989 by 1999 was reported.<BR>The results were as follows:<BR>1. It was possible to obtain hemostatic after ordinary dental extraction without platelet concentrate transfusion if platelet counts were above 2.5×104/μl.<BR>2. It was possible to obtain hemostasis after impacted tooth extraction if platelet counts were about 5×104/μl.<BR>3. Local hemostasis management was important for ITP patients to decrease in platelet concentrate transfusion.<BR>4. Oral surgeons should consult physicians when planing dental extraction of a patient with ITP.
