The Application of Dental Implantto PLP(Palatal Lift Proshesis) for Edentulous Cleft Palate Patients.

It is said that palatal lift prosthesis (PLP) is useful for activation of the velopharyngeal function. And it typically consists of a palatal portion with hooks that attach to the patient's teeth and a posterior extension that elevates the soft palate to the posterior pharyngeal wall, thereby producing a mechanical obstruction of nasopharynx. So the retention of PLP becomes difficult in edentulous patients.<BR>We describe here the application of hydroxylapatite-coated implants (Integral®) with magnetic attachments for the retention of PLP in the management of two edentulous cleft palate patients.<BR>After the operation speech function and velopharyngeal closure were satisfactory in both cases.
