The effects of the difference in initial population densities of Meloidogyne arenaria on the yield and growth of a soybean plant, cv. Suzuyutaka was examined in pot experiments. The analysis of the effects was made by fitting the Seinhorst's equation to the density-yield (growth) relationship. For both of the yield and growth, the tolerance limit was estimated to be 0.16 juveniles per g of dried soil, and the minimum yield (growth) to be 0.78 of the maximum yield at densities more than 10 juveniles per g of dried soil. The root-knot index number became large as the initial population density rose.
