The development and diapause induction in the Kanzawa spider mite, <I>Tetranychus kanzawai</I>, were elucidated under the photoperiod of LD 10: 14h combined with constant temperatures of 20, 22 and 25°C. The developmental time (D) from the egg to adult stages was 19, 16 and 12 days at 20, 22 and 25°C, respectively. The relationship between velocities of development (V=1/D) and temperatures (t) was V=-0.0564+0.0055t (r2=0.993). Hence, the developmental zero and the effective accumulative temperature were 10.3°C and 183 day-degrees, respectively. The proportion of survival to the adult stage was about 80% on average. The sex ratio was female biased and averaged 67%. The percentage of diapause increased as temperatures lowered and 100% of females entered diapause at 16°C.
