Studies on Mass Rearing Methods of the Dung Beetle, <I>Onthophagus gazella</I>:8. Separation Methods of Attached Soil from Residual Cattle Dung

In order to measure the consumption of cattle dung by dung beetles, several separation methods were compared. Among the methods tested (to weigh residue ashes after burning organic matter; to scrape off adhered soil with using a hand-brush; to precipitate soil and separate it from the dung in water), the highest recovery rate was obtained by burning, followed by brushing and precipitaion. In treatment, brushing was most simple, followed by precipitation and burning.
