Culicoides sanguisuga, C. sinanoensis and C. arakawae are expected to be controlled well by permethrin-impregnated cage-tags in Japan. Their susceptibility to permethrin was studied by contact method to insecticide residues, so as to know part of the mechamism of the tags against the pests. The LC-50 after half an hour treatment showed 0.091-0.198 m μ l/cm2. These values were smaller than those of BPMC and f enitrothion which were tested as controll insecticides. Besides, these values were much smaller than those in case of Haematobia irritans and Musca hervei.
