Flight muscle development in the adults of the rice water weevils, Lissorhoptrus oryzophilus, overwintering at the hibernation sites was investigated in relation to their immigration into the paddy fields. Muscle development and immigration was closely correlated with day-degree (DD) accumulation necessary for 50% of the adults to develop their flight muscle exceeding 156μm. Immigration peak occurred when cumulative percentage of DD reached 70-80%. Distribution of immigrated adults within the paddy fields was aggregate with higher density at the edges of the paddy in the early immigration period but distribution changed into random after DD attained 100%.
