Seasonal fluctuation in the antibiosis with growth stage of the resistant parent lines of rice to the green rice leafhopper, Nephotettix cincticeps, was investigated. The level of antibiosis in 'Norin PL-5, ' and 'Norin PL-6' was initially high from 2nd-Ieaf stage until the 5th-leaf stage declining in subsequent stages but increased from August until maturity while 'Norin PL-2', 'Kanto PL-6' and 'Aichi No.42' exhibited high level of antibiosis from the 2 nd-leaf stage until the 4 th-leafstage declining in subsequent stages but increased in mid August and then decreased slowly. The highest level of antibiosis was observed for the latter group of parent lines two weeks before the heading period. It was suggested that laboratory test for antibiosis using leaf blade should be conducted in August and September for the former group of parent lines and in mid August for the latter group.
