Silvery sign of the leaves on the inoculated apple trees was first observed at the beginning of May, and the degree of silvering gradually became stronger in a few months. The silvering was stronger on the leaves near the base of the shoots, becoming weaker further up the shoots.<BR>It was obviously ascertained that the size of leaves, chlorophyll content of laminae and the quantity of assimilated carbon in leaves on the diseased trees were more reduced than those of leaves on the healthy trees. Besides these, the authors observed that the ratio of watercore appearance in the fruit born on the diseased trees was considerably higher than that of fruit on the healthy trees. Futhermore, many stains like apple rough skin occurred on the fruit of Tsugaru variety which was violently affected by silver leaf.
