Hypersensitivity reactions to trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole occurred in a 26 y. o. hemophiliac with Pneumocystis carini pneumonia. He had been treated with imported blood products. Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) was isolated from peripheral blood lymphocytes, therefore this case fulfills diagnostic criteria for acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS).<BR>On 9th day after administration of trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, hypersensitivity reactions appeared with fever and systemic eruptions on skin and mucus membrane. Pathological findings of these tissues suggest toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN).
