In 1973, we participated in an epidemiological study team of whooping cough, and investigated the relationship between aggulutinin titer of B. pertussis and history of vaccination in 151 children in Aichi prefecture. Isolation of B. pertussis was attempted on 11 patients of whooping cough.
1) Twenty-two among 133 vaccinated were found to have 320 folds aggulutinin titer or more and 17 among 22 were those who had finished the fourth vaccination (the 2nd term vaccination). It is our opinion that the prevention of whooping cough by vaccination would need the routine procedure of both the 1st (3 times) and the 2nd term (once) vaccinations.
2) B. pertussis was isolated from two patients. It tells that if the culture is carried out timely, it is possible to isolate B. pertussis.
