We studied on the response of small wind turbines to changes of wind speed and load. In the study, we assumed that the torque coefficient and power coefficient is characterized by the tip speed ratio and Reynolds number. First, we showed that the value of tip speed ratio, which has the maximum torque, is smaller than that of which has themaximum output power. Second, response time for the change of wind speed and load was given as a function of thetorque coefficient and the moment of inertia of the blade and generator system. Finally, it is found that response time isproportional to the moment of the inertia and is reversely proportional to wind speed.
