The selection function of the vibration mill was theoretically analyzed with the concept of probability based upon a simple model of particle nipped between balls colliding with each other.The calculated results were compared with experimental results, and they were agreed well qualitatively and quantitatively with each other. According to some of the experimental results, the selection function of the mill with balls as a grinding medium decreases in the range of large particle size. This tendency could be explained in such a way that the internal stress of particle produced with the ball collision becomes insufficient magnitude as compared with the particle strength in the case of large particle size.
