Twenty three male wistar-Imaichi strain SPF rats, 14weeks of age, were subjected to hematological and hematobiochemical exeminations for 35 items. From original data obtained, the mean values and standard deviations were calculated for each item in order to standardize the original data. On the other hand, on the screen of the personal computer, 35 coodinate axes of equal length were drawn radiately from a certain point at interval of equal angle, and each axis was assigned to one of 35 test items. The midpoint of each axis was defined as the point of origin for the standardized data. According to the 2 or 3 sigma method, the upper control limit point and the lower control limit point were plotted on each axis outward and inward respectively. The straight lines joining mutual facing control limit points make two equilateral polygons. We decided to refer to the space between these two equilateral polygones as'control doughnut', and the whole drawing as 'radar control chart'. Furthermore, on this control chart, the standardized multi-itemized data were plotted for individual subject, and the resultant polygon made by joining each plotted point was referred to as'individual pattern'. This individual pattern is handy for intuitive grasp of characteristics of each animal.<BR>Therefore, drawing of individual pattern on the radar control chart is considered to be useful for control or evaluation of individuals in comprehensive and intuitive ways. This means that the radar control chart is available as a handy multivariate control chart since it is easy to draw and provides intuitive grasp of individuals in terms of graphic pattern.
