False detection of cyanide ion is often encountered during the determination of total cyanide in photographic processing solutions.<BR>This paper describes the effects of color developing agents on the false detection of cyanide ion.<BR>Hydrogen cyanide was formed by the reaction of color developing agents with nitrite ion and potassium permanganate. In addition, pseudo coloration of cyanide ion occured by the reaction with color developing agents and pyridine-pyrazolone reagent.
