For the conservation and restoration of semi-natural grassland in Aso, western Japan, edaphic and physiogarphic optima for several rare plant species distribution were estimated. Occurrence probability for each rare species, Adonis multiflora Nishikawa et Ko. Ito, Primula sieboldii E. Moor, Trigonotis radicans (Turcz.) Steven, Lysimachia vulgaris var. davurica (Ledeb.) R. Kunth, Lychnis sieboldii Van Houtte and Echinops setifer Iljin was analyzed as dependent variables through logistic regression analysis with explanatory variables; physical and chemical properties of surface soil, slope or not, and distribution district. Occurrence probability for each species was explained with the explanatory variable (s) through the single logistic regression analyses, and the edaphic and physiognomic optima for each species were calculated. Adonis multiflora, Prim ula sieboldii and Lychnis sieboldii were well-explained with the explanatory variables through the multivariate logistic regression analyses. The occurrence probability of these species might be predictable with the edaphic and physiogarphic condition of semi-natural grasslands.
