It has been suspected that fibrinolytic activity (FA) is affected by central nervous system (CNS) for the fact that mental stress increases FA. In this paper, we studied the relationship between the sympathetic nervous system and FA.Wister strain male rats (200-250g) were used and FA of euglobulin fraction from rats' plasma were assayed by fibrin-agar plate method. When Ep. (4μg/kg) was administrated intravenously, FA increased about 31% compared with control, and it was significantly inhibited either by the pretreatments of α or β adrenergic blocker. This inhibition was significantly stronger by β blocker. On the otherhand, electrical stimulation to ventromedial hypothalamus (VMH) caused about 59% increase of FA, while it was also significantly inhibited by adrenergic blockers in the same manner mentioned above. Moreover, the responses of FA to VMH stimulation were not recognized in adrenalectomized rats. These results suggest that the activation of fibrinolytic system is induced by the activation of sympathetic nervous system, and adrenal glands closely relate to this mechanism.
