Plasma fibronectin (FN) were measured by means of immuno-turbidimetry using laser nepherometer in 124 patients with ischemic cerebrovascular disease (ICVD, 75 with cerebral infarction and 49 with TIA) and 75 agematched controls having neurological disorders except for cerebrovascular disease. In patients with cerebral infarction, 15 patients were at acute stage (within a month from the onset of stroke) and 60 were at chronic stage (over a month after onset).FN was 26.3±4.9mg/dl (x±SD) in the patient controls, in whom there was a significant correlation between FN and age (r=+0.462, p<0.01). FN was higher (29.0±4.8mg/dl) in the chronic patients with ICVD than in the acute patients with ICVD (24.7±3.4) (p<0.01). Thus, FN tended to be low in the acute ICVD patients and was significantly (p<0.01) high in the chronic ICVD patients in comparison with the controls. There was no correlation between FN and platelet aggregation in response to ADP.
