We studied on some technical problems of endoscopic injection sclerotherapy (EIS) for 91 cases in the initial series experienced from November 1981 to July 1989.<BR> From the investigation on the period of recurrence, aim of endoscopic improvement of esophageal varices should be settled upon the time when the endoscopic findings become F1 RC (-). Furthermore, injection of sclerosing agent into the supporting vein of esophageal varices is necessary at least once during each series, when blood flow of esophageal varices must be completely stopped by the balloon with the f iberscope.<BR> The site of the puncture to which sclerosing agent can be easily injected at EIS should be selected.<BR> Injection volume of sclerosing agent must be determined under the X-ray.<BR> Frequently encountered side effects were fever, hemolysis, leukocytosis and esophageal ulcer. All of these were, however, not critical.
