A CASE OF ADENOMA OF THE DUODENAL PAPILLA AND TWO CASES OF THE COEXISTENCE OF ADENOMA AND CARCINOMA

Three cases with tumor of the duodenal papilla were reported. Histological examina-tion revealed adenoma in one case and adenoma associated with carcinoma in other two cases.<BR> Case 1: A 53-year-old, male. Tumor of the duodenal papilla was observed by the endoscopic examination. Biopsy specimen taken from the tumor showed adenoma histologically. However, pancreatoduodenectomy was performed. Since the possibility of carcinoma was highly suspected clinically. Tubulo adenoma was confirmed by the postoperative histological examination.<BR> Case 2 : A 60-year-old, female. Endoscopic examination showed tumor of the duodenal papilla. Since adenoma associated with carcinoma was stolongly suggested by biopsy. Pancreatoduodenectomy was undertaken. Pathological examination revealed carcinoma in adenoma of the duodenal papilla.<BR> Case 3 : A 73-year-old, male. Endoscopic examination showed tumor of the duodenal papilla. Histological examination of biopsy specimen showed adenoma. However, carcinoma in adenoma of the duodenal papilla was confirmed by postoperative histopath-ological study. Qualitative diagnosis of tumorous lesion of the duodenal papilla is sometimes difficult even by histological examination of biopsy specimen. The possibility of carcinoma should be considered in treatment of tumorous lesion of the duodenal papilla.
