A CASE REPORT OF EARLY ESOPHAGEAL CANCER COMBINED WITH SIMULTANEOUS EARLY GASTRIC CANCER

A 59-year-old-male was hospitarized with sudden onset of haematemesis. Emergency endoscopy revealed a superficial and excavated type esophageal cancer in the 2 o'clock direction situated at 33 cms from the incisor line. Two weeks later second-look endoscopy demonstrated the improvement of ulceration, and changed to a superficial and protruded type esophageal cancer, and furthermore a IIc type early gastric cancer at the anterior wall of the cardiac portion was observed. Radical operation was performed after 19.8 Gy total esophageal irradiation. Gastric lesion showed histologically well differentiated tubular adenocarcinoma localized within the submucosal layer without lymphnode metastasis. The esophageal lesion was a superficial type and moderately differentiated squamous cell carcinoma localized within the submucosal layer without lymphnode metastasis also, but accompanied by heavy infiltration of the inflammatory cell just under the cancer nest. We think the heavy inflammatory cell infiltration may play an important role in the spontaneous healing of malignant ulceration of the superficial type esophageal cancer.
