NEW TRIAL OF INSERTION OF DOUBLE OR TRIPLE STENTS TO IMPROVE THE EFFECT OF ENDOSCOPIC INTERNAL BILIARY DRAINAGE

Now endoscopic internal biliary drainage plays an important role as a decompression method of the biliary system. But it sometimes loses its effect by clogging of the stent because the diameter of the channel of duodenofiberscope limits the use of the stent that has wider diameter. In this paper we reported our experience to insert double or triple stents into obstructed bile duct for eight patients who had unresectable malignancies. We have gotten satisfactory results in all cases. To insert the stent into the left and right hepatic duct selectively, introducing catheter with specially formed tip was used. We used this catheter for four cases and the success rate was 75%. We regard this method as having advantages because it provides not only twice or three times as much width of the lumen as single stent has but also the assistance to maintain the patency of the stenosis making a gap between the stents and narrowed bile duct.
