This paper is to estimate the determinant model of the number of the aged who engage in farming and to clarify the determinant factors of the aged's engaging in farming in regions. In particular, attention is paid to non-economic factors such as the size of the potential old farm entrant pool. And negative binomial regression is used because it well explains count data such as the number of the aged who engage in farming.The results are as follows.(1) The main determinants of the aged's engaging in farming in prefectures are non-economic factors such as size of potential old farm entrant pool, health, promotion policy on the aged's engaging in farming, number of agricultural work service organizations, and the number of the aged who engage in rice cropping.(2) On average, the unit (1%) increase of number of local communities which take promotion policy on the aged's engaging in farming results in the 4.74% increase of the number of the aged who engage in farming in a prefecture. And the unit (1000 men) decrease in the number of potential old farm entrants results in the 2.18% decrease of the number of the aged who engage in farming.(3) Negative binomial regression is better than linear regression in clarifying the determinant factors of the number of the aged who engage in farming.
