We report a case of a boy with growth hormone (GH) insufficiency and immunodeficiency.
(CASE REPORT) The boy was delivered normally (2935g). He suffered from recurrent infections (pneumonia and meningitis). At age 13 years, he was 126 cm tall (-4.2 SD) and weighed 26.2kg (-2.3 SD) without secondary sexual characteristics. Bone age was 7 1/2 years. Three of seven paternal sibs died of infectious disease at age two years.
The patient was diagnosed as having immunodeficiency with increased immunoglobulin M (IgM) and GH insufficiency. GH deficiency has been documented only in a few reports in association with X-linked hypogammaglobulinemia, but not hyper-IgM syndrome. He was treated with intravenous immunoglobulin (10g/2 weeks) and HGH (12 units/week).
