A high-speed gas sampling method was used to analyze the local gas composition within the pre-combustion chamber and main combustion chamber of a lean-burn gas engine with a 180mm bore. The spatial distribution of the gas composition and changes every crank angle were studied. A pre-combustion chamber volume and an excess air ratio in main chamber are dominant factors to determine the NOx emission level. A plural small pre-combustion chamber is a key technology to achieve an ultra low NOx emission, which were evaluated by means of a test on a 6 cylinder engine with a 335mm bore.
