Experiments for drag reduction on the hydraulic transport of a solid have been carried out using polymer solutions and SiO2 slurries. It is clear that the pressure loss of the case of polymer solutions decreases in the high mean velocity range by comparison with the case of water, and that of SiO2 slurries decreases in the low mean velocity range. The drag coefficient of a solid in SiO2 slurries has been obtained through the measurement of the terminal velocity using a ultrasonic transducer, and the experimental data of pressure loss of the circular and spiral tubes has been correlated with the experimental formula.
