The seroconversion rate after vaccination may vary with age, type of vaccine, and injection method. In this study, the seroconversion rates of 3 kinds of recombinant HB vaccines were examined in dental students matched for age and sex. In 605 dental students, who were negative for anti-hepatitis B surface antibody, anti-hepatitis B surface antibody was measured after inoculation of with 3 kinds of vaccines; Bimmugen, r-HB vaccine"MITSUBI-SHI", and Engerix-B; and the seroconversion rate was calculated. The seroconversion rates after inoculation with these vaccines were 91 %, 88% and 96.6%, respectively. The overall seroconversion rate was 93%, and the rate of Engerix-B seroconversion was significantly higher than those of the two other vaccines. The seroconversion rate in males was 90%, and 96% in females. These results suggest that improved dosages and selection of the type of vaccine used in HB vaccination is necessary.
