A case of PID with adnexal mass and elevated serum CA125.

The antigen CAl25, which is detected by monoclonal antibody OC-125 against human ovarian cancer, is a useful tumor marker of ovarian cancer or endometriosis. Recently, it has been reported that the serum CAl25 level was elevated in various diseases in the obstetrical and gynecological fields. We diagnosed a patient as PID of Chlamydia trachomatis with elevated serum CAl25 level up to 4580 U/ml. The patient was a 25-year-old nulligravid female. She was referred to our hospital for evaluation of occasional abnormal vaginal bleedings and lower abdominal pain. Chlamydia trachomatis antibody level elevated and she was diagnosed PID of Chlamydia trachomatis. After administering anti-biotics, the CAl25level and the IgA level for Chlamydia trachomatis decreased and the symptoms disappeared. In recent years, cases of PID caused by Chlamydia trachomatis have increased. [Adv Obstet Gynecol 50 (5); 519-522.1998 (H10.9)]
