A case of retroperitoneal schwannoma.

A case of retroperitoneal schwannoma is presented. A 36-year-old woman visited our clinic with a complaint of sense of lower abdominal tumor. Preoperatively, a gynecological examination, ultrasonography and CT scan revealed left ovarian cystic tumor with partially solid region. The titer ofAFP, CEA, CA-125, CA-199 and SCC in the serum were under the cut-off level. Postoperatively, a retroperitoneal tumor was found, which measured 8.5×9.5 × 8.0cm in size and weighed 120g. Histologically, the tumor was diagnosed to be benign schwannoma of two differing types of Antoni A and B. Immunohistochemically, the tumor cells were positive for S-100 protein and neuron-specific enolase (NSE), which confirmed this tumor to be of nerve origin. The patient complained of motor and sensory disturbances in the left L<SUB>4</SUB>-S<SUB>1</SUB> region after the operation. Now we treat her in the outpatient clinic under orthopedical care.
