A case report of mixed mesodermal tumor of the ovary with good response to chemotherapy.

Mixed mesodermal tumors of the ovary are rare gynecological malignancies. In Japan, only 19 cases of mixed mesodermal tumors of the ovary have been reported. This type of tumor is not only rare but also presents an usual poor prognosis. To date, no good post-surgical therapy involving chemotherapy and radiation therapy has been proven.<BR>A case of mixed mesodermal tumor of the ovary arising in a multiparous female has been reported. The tumor consisted of adenocarcinoma in the epithelial component and homologous sarcomatous elements in the interstitial component.<BR>Post-operative multi-agent chemotherapy using CDDP, CBDCA and etoposide was performed and up to the time of the reporting, the patient stayed alive with no signs of recurrence.
