Cytological study of cervical and vaginal metastases in two patients with primary stomach cancer.

Two patients were seen in our clinic with metastatic adenocarcinoma from primary stomach cancer. One had a metastasis to the cervix uteri and the other to the vagina.<BR>The cervical smear of a 35-year-old housewife with abdominal distension and uterine cervical cancer showed abnormal cells with a very high N/C ratio and hyperchromatic nuclei on a relatively clear background. Abnormal cells with mucous vacuoles were also seen sporadically.<BR>The vaginal smear of a 65-year-old housewife who had had a partial gastrectomy for stomach cancer and had two small tumors on the anterior vaginal wall showed abnormal cells in papillary clusters and sheet-like arrangements. The cells were large and almost round, and the cytoplasm was light-green and usually contained small vacuoles. Signet ring cells were also seen.
