Maternal A-V block - two cases resulting in fetal distress.

Two pregnant women with A-V block, whose bradycardia might cause intrauterine growth retardation and fetal distress, were reported. In both patients, the NST at peripartal period showed non-reactive pattern when maternal heart rate decreased, and it became reactive after maternal heart rate was increased by the administration of atropin sulfate. The first patient was delivered successfully with no treatment after the onset of labour, but second patient was delivered with emergent cesarean section due to continuous fetal bradycardia arised from oligohydroamnios and cord depression.Present report suggests the importance of close monitoring for fetuses as well as mothers in patients who are associated with A-V block leading to the low uterine perfusion.
