A 4-year-old female horse suffering from small intestinal volvulus with severe cardiovascular depression received laparotomy under halothane anesthesia. Following xylazine hydrochloride administration as premeditation, a mixture of ketamine hydrochloride and guaiacol glycerine ether was administrated to induce anesthesia. Because of the hypotension a mixture of dopamine and dobutamine at the same dose (1-3μg/kg/min) was infused. Mean arterial blood pressure increased but was maintained at 55-60 mmHg. In addition, signs of post anesthetic myopathy was observed. Thus, these drugs might be effective to keep higher arterial pressure, however more effective managements must be needed in this type of patients.
