Continuous intravenous infusion of 0.25% ketamine with the premedication of xylazine was applied to various minor surgeries (castration, removal of bone fragments and so on) of 43 horses. Induction of anesthesia was quite smooth and the maintenance during surgery was easy. Furthermore, the recovery was fast without excitement. These results suggest that this method may be quite useful, especially in the surgeries being performed under poor facilities.
