The adverse drug reaction (ADR) reporting system is an important measure of signal detection of drugs. The ADR reporting by patients directly to the regulatory authorities has launched in some western countries. Patients reporting number is increasing, although that by medical doctors is decreasing. Patients are coming up as a presense playing a more central role in pharmaco-vigilance. While patients are in the position of getting to know information, they would be also bearing the role that they disseminate that information. Through reviewing the present state of ADR reporting by patients, I would like to discuss its significance and problems.
