The behaviors of NO in NO-O<SUB>2</SUB>-N<SUB>2</SUB> mixture under a low pressure mercury lamp irradiation were studied at room temperature. NO was oxidized to NO<SUB>2</SUB> and higher oxides. The initial reaction rate was proportional to the square of O<SUB>2</SUB> concentration and the square root of NO concentration and decreased during the course of the reaction because of a retardation by NO<SUB>2</SUB>. The initial rate of the reaction under the constant concentration of O<SUB>2</SUB> was expressed by the following equation:<BR>-d [NO] /dt=k<SUB>2</SUB> [NO] <SUP>1/2</SUP>/ {1+k'<SUB>2</SUB> ( [NO] <SUB>o</SUB>- [NO] ) / [NO] }<BR>The order of the reaction of NO decreased gradually as the proceeding proqress of the reaction.<BR>The reaction rate of NO was remarkably accelerated by the presence of H<SUB>2</SUB>O. NO reacted with O<SUB>3</SUB> and was oxidized rapidly to higher oxides in the dark reaction in NO-O<SUB>3</SUB>-O<SUB>2</SUB>-N<SUB>2</SUB> mixture. The effect of O<SUB>3</SUB> in the oxidation of NO decreased a little under a high pressure mercury lamp irradiation because of the reductive decomposition of NO<SUB>2</SUB> formed. While the effect increased remarkably by a low pressure mercury lamp irradiation and O<SUB>3</SUB> oxidized several times of the amounts of NO to NO<SUB>2</SUB>.
