The amount of sludge discharged from municipal wastewater treatment plants has been increasing recently. The compost produced by the sludge is a valuable nutrient resource for vegetation because it contains rich organic matters, nitrogen and phosphate. However, composting plants are not increasing greatly because it is difficult for the managers to balance of supply and demand for the compost.<BR>We consider the balance of supply and demand for compost in a suburban city with a population of 50, 000 in Osaka prefecture. The spreading volume of compost is estimated by nitrogen or zinc concentration for each parcel of land. As a result, it is possible to balance supply and demand by spreading a proper volume of compost on an agricultural field and green belt in a suburban area
