We investigated an effect of heavy metals on the growth of basidiomycete Phanerochaete chrysosporium. After inoculating spores in the liquid culture medium with cadmium, copper, manganese and zinc, and the growth of Phanerochaete chrysosporium was followed by measuring the absorbance of them. The area value calculated from the growth curve for 48 and 96 hours was used as an index of the growth characteristic. Copper (10-1000μeq/l) and manganese (10-12000μeq/l) did not affect the growth excessively. Cadmium caused remarkable growth inhibition at the high concentration (3000-8000μeq/l) . While zinc promoted the growth remarkably at the low concentration (10μeq/l), however it decreased at the high concentration (8000-12000μeq/l) .
