Treatment of domestic wastewater using fibrous ball.

A basic research was made on a highly efficient biological treatment system composed of a aeration tank filled with fiber balls of 4-6 mm diameter for immobilization of microorganisms and a high rate filter with fiber filtration media, using a testing equipment of 5 m3/day treatment capacity. Pretreatment for the biological treatment was also examined. Operating conditions of the biological treatment ; BOD loading less than 2 kg-BOD/m3day and 40% filling rate of fiber balls were proved to be sufficient to achieve less than 10mg/lof BOD in this case. A screen with 0.3mm slit was also proved to be necessary for pretreatment. As final treatment, operating conditions of the filtration ; 20m hr filtration speed and 80cm media height were proved to be sufficient.
