Drying-incineration system planning of sewage sludge was discussed as illustrated with the east-area sludge center at Kobe. For the planning of disposing of 600 ton-dewtered cake/day, first we surveyed unit process technologies and set up several alternatives followed by overall evaluation. Drying-incineration system was selected and constructed, which is composed of indirect heated dryer using low-pressure steam, fluidized bed furnace and waste heat boiler. From the result of full-scale operation in KOBE consumed fuel oil was about 23ι/ton-cake (cake moisture content 81.2%, lower calorific value 180kcal/kg), which is lower value as compared with usual incineration systems.
