For the purpose of preventing eutrophication in the areas receiving effluent from sewage treatment plant, investigation was made the grasp of the performances of fluidized bed type denitrification process as the tertiary treatment of sewage.<BR>It was found that; 1) the adhering and multiplying period for microorganisms was shortened by the addition of NH<SUB>4</SUB>Cl as NH<SUP>+</SUP><SUB>4</SUB>-N, NaNO<SUP>-</SUP><SUB>3</SUB> as NO<SUB>3</SUB>-N, 2) at the voluminal load of 3.2kg-N/m<SUP>3</SUP>.d and LV of 20 m/h, NO<SUP>-</SUP><SUB>3</SUB>-N was reduced to the level less than 0.5mg/l (the rate of removal was 97.2%), 3) the limiting addition ratio of CH<SUB>3</SUB>OH was 2.0kg-CH<SUB>3</SUB>OH/kg-NO<SUP>-</SUP><SUB>3</SUB>-N, 4) the decay coefficient Kd due to stopping the feeding of CH<SUB>3</SUB>OH was 0.051 d<SUP>-1</SUP>, and the process Which dose not produce sludge is possible, and 5) denitrification-process, the phenomenon of excess intake of phosphorous was ovserved (ΔNO<SUP>-</SUP><SUB>3</SUB>- N/ΔPO<SUP>3-</SUP><SUB>4</SUB>-P=0.74, ΔCH<SUB>3</SUB>OH/ΔPO<SUP>3-</SUP><SUB>4</SUB>-P=5.99) .
