The postoperative course of 58 patients treated by horizontal partial laryngectomy between 1994 and 1999 was evaluated in those over the age of 70 years and the others. The 5-year local control rate was 82% in T1 and T2 cases in patients aged over 70 years. There was no difference in hospitalization period or complications between the two age groups. These results indicate that horizontal partial laryngectomy is feasible even in elderly patients who request preservation of the larynx.
