Five patients with oral cancer underwent preoperative chemotherapy (CBDCA: 324.8mg, PEP: 32.1mg) using superselective intra-arterial infusion via the superficial temporal artery. As a result, CR was observed in 3 cases and PR in 2 cases, and postoperative pathological examination revealed no viable tumor cells of Gr. III in 3 cases and Gr. IIb in 2 cases. The platinum concentrations in resected tumor tissues were measured after infusion of carboplatin before tumor resection. The mean platinum concentration in tumor tissue was more than twice that of the conventional intra-arterial infusion method. This superselective intra-arterial infusion method allows direct infusion of the anticancer agent into the artery supplying the tumor and is expected to become a new therapeutic modality for oral cancer.
